~ Small changes to make a big difference~

Curtains
Window treatments can completely transform a room, if done correctly.

As well as being functional, curtains are a fantastic way to aesthetically update a room without much work required.

As a rule of thumb, always hang your curtains tall and wide, and they should always be long enough to touch the floor, no matter what size your window.

Curtains that gently kiss the floor, and sit approx 6 inches above the window frame (the higher the better in my opinion) and up to 12 inches outside the frame on each side, will make even the daintiest of windows look grand.

Cushions
A well plumped cushion can make your space look cosy and inviting.

Perfectly placed, cushions are one of the most cost effective ways to refresh your home and inject your personality.

Layer textures and sizes, and always opt for an odd number to keep it visually appealing.

See my cushion insert guide below to ensure your cushions never look limp.

Colour for small rooms
It's often a misconception when small-space decorating to go white on the walls to reflect the most light to make the space feel bigger. But in fact, the opposite is true.

A dark colour such as navy, burgundy, or even black on the walls (and ceiling!) will absorb the light, therefore the walls are less clearly defined and it then gives off the illusion of more space.

Using a matte finish on the walls to diffuse light, and following the 60:30:10 rule, use of selective contrasting colours can reflect the light correctly.

Painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls takes the 'lid' off of the room and really hones into making it one comfortable space.
